The Tosin Owonifari Empowerment Foundation (TOEF) has organized a one-day Information Technology (IT) awareness and training programme for hundreds of youths in Ise-Ekiti, Ise-Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State. The gesture was aimed at promoting digital literacy at the grassroots.
Speaking during the training, the Chairman of the foundation, Engr. Tosin Owonifari, stated that it is imperative for young citizens to be equipped with basic technology knowledge, IT skills, and digital literacy to access opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy. He added that the initiative stems from a commitment to ensuring youths are not left behind as the world transitions from analog to digital systems.
Owonifari noted that his passion for youth development inspired programs enabling young people in rural communities to navigate the digital space. "We have engaged more than 287 youths, and less than 10 percent have basic knowledge of computing, not to mention advanced digital skills. Most digital trainings and opportunities are concentrated in urban centres, leaving rural youths at a disadvantage," he stated.
